TORONTO, ONTARIO – January 17, 2020 – Di Benedetto Racing Inc. (DBR) is pleased to report that the 2020 Nissan Micra Cup Schedule has been released.

The sixth season of the Nissan Micra Cup series, which is managed by Jacques Deshaies’ JD Promotion & Competition, announced that for the 2020 season the series will return to the prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada event.

“We’re delighted to start 2020 on such an exciting note by releasing the Nissan Micra Cup calendar and announcing its return to the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada,” said Steve Milette, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “The Nissan Micra Cup will once again give passionate amateur drivers a unique opportunity to take part in Canada’s most prestigious automotive race of the season, in front of thousands of spectators and the world’s best drivers, all while behind the wheel of a racing car that costs just $24,500 CAD. This is the essence of the Nissan Micra Cup: to give Canadian racing fans the opportunity to have fun and enjoy an extraordinary and exciting experience.”

The presence of the Nissan Micra Cup at the 51st edition of the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada (the 41st in Montreal) is very exciting news for the series competitors, who will share the track with the stars of the Formula 1 World Championship, and also for Canadian motorsport fans that will be able to watch the stars of tomorrow behind the wheel of their practically unmodified, identical Nissan Micra’s.

“Every year I put an emphasis on making our support race program as exciting as possible because I know how much it adds to the overall weekend experience,” said François Dumontier, President and CEO, Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada. “That’s why I’m particularly proud that the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada is on the calendar of another Canadian racing series. I’m confident that fans in attendance will enjoy the driving performance the Nissan Micra Cup racers will put on June 12 to 14.”

This will be the second appearance of the Nissan Micra Cup at the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada since the series began in 2015. That year, Olivier Bédard scored his first victory during Saturday’s race and eventually went on to secure three titles in the series, Stefan Rzadzinski from Alberta captured Sunday’s race victory, and Valérie Chiasson completed the podium in third position and made Canadian motorsport history as the first female driver to secure an overall podium spot on the circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

“All the drivers in the series have welcomed this fantastic news with excitement and enthusiasm,” said Jacques Deshaies, Nissan Micra Cup promoter. “Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada is clearly the most important sport and leisure event in the country. We were there in 2015 and we have the honour of being there again this year. It’s a real show of confidence in our spec series from promoter François Dumontier, and I am sure our drivers will provide fans with excellent entertainment on the track,” he added.

The 2020 season will kick off in Ontario on May 15-17 as part of the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, located northeast of Toronto. The second event of the season will be held as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada in Montreal, before taking part in the Summer Classic at Circuit Mont-Tremblant at the end of July.

The fourth event of the season will be the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. As every year, this event will be one of the highlights of the season, with large grids and exciting, door-to-door racing on a temporary street circuit that has a rich history.

The 2020 season will continue at the end of August at Calabogie Motorsports Park, near Ottawa, before the series concludes at the Fall Classic, Circuit Mont-Tremblant at the end of September.

Each of the six events throughout the season will host two races for a total of 12 rounds. If the increase in driver entries at the end of 2019 is a sign of things to come, the 2020 season could see a record number of drivers entered in the Nissan Micra Cup.
