WSC and FEL sign three-year deal for TCR in Canada

WSC Group and FEL Motorsports have announced the signing of a three-year deal for the organisation of TCR competition in Canada, from 2022 to 2024. The agreement was made under the auspices of IMSA.

During the three previous seasons TCR cars raced in Canada in the frame of the Canadian Touring Car Championship.

WSC President Marcello Lotti said: “We are very grateful to CTCC for their crucial contribution in introducing TCR to Canada during the past three years and we are now pleased to welcome FEL Motorsports to the TCR global family.”

Dominique Bondar, General Manager of CTCC said: “We are honoured to have initiated such a positive energy around the TCR brand and to have driven its successful growth and awareness in Canada. This success could not have been possible without the support of our dedicated drivers and teams, and all our partners. We would like to thank everyone at WSC for our three years of successful collaboration and a very special acknowledgement to Marcello Lotti and Nunzia Corvino.”

A TCR class will be run by FEL Motorsports within their Sports Car Championship Canada series. The 2022 calendar consists of six events, including one at the Honda Indy Toronto street-circuit as support to the Indy Car Series; the event format comprises two 40-minute sprint races, one Saturday and one Sunday.

FEL president Chris Bye stated: “We could not be more excited to join the global TCR family. This is something we have been working on with the WSC and IMSA for a while and we are extremely happy and grateful that they have accepted us into the family. I thank Marcello Lotti from WSC, John Doonan from IMSA and their teams for making this happen. I also thank all Canadian TCR team owners and drivers for their support. We believe that growth and momentum will come from our strong prizing and prize money package which gives back to the teams, and we expect to have 13/15 TCR cars this year.”
